I really love conversations about corporate culture. They never end, and they tend to be deeply personal. Here’s one view — Your Corporate Culture: A Boon or a Bane? — suggesting that the culture of a company filters down from the executive leadership, especially the CEO. I agree with this top-down view, but I don’t think it’s the only factor. In fact, in the near future — perhaps now — it may not even be the driving factor. Corporate culture also grows in from the edges of a company, especially at a company like Sun that has thousands of people participating in external communities. The influence of the edge is growing. And with recent statements from the leadership at Sun, it seems that we are moving more and more in this direction. Which is cool. There’s empowerment and opportunity out there.
