Stallman on Sun

Here’s a piece by Richard Stallman — How does ‘that company’ treat free software? — talking about Sun based on OpenSolaris, Java, and OpenOffice. He’s got different views for each project. I think it’s perfectly fine to judge each project differently. I think you have to. They are all licensed differently, they were all born during different times and live in different markets, and they are all different technologies built by different developer communities. Go check out Stallman’s views. And Matt comments on Stallman’s comments, too.

  1. Wow, he said that Solaris is no longer unethical. That’s quite an endorsement from someone like RMS, in my opinion. His only complaint is about licensing details (no copy-n-paste into the Linux kernel).
