Rumors, Speculation, and Solaris

There’s yet another article out there about rumors and speculation swirling around Sun. Whatever. The best part of the article, though, is that the reporter decided to email Scott — the subject of some of these rumors — and Scott responded with this:

“Sorry, don’t comment on rumor, though the rumor that I am leaving Sun is about 22 years old and still going strong. You should be writing about the runaway success of Solaris 10!”

Excellent. Out of all the stuff we make around here, what’s the one product the boss chooses to highlight in this context? Solaris. How cool is that, eh? Must be top of mind or something …

  1. It is nice to know that even the boss realises that Solaris is Sun’s most important product. It seemed that, for a while, Sun forgot it was actually a software company which just happened to sell hardware which ran the software well.
